Sleepy Eye tied for first at Class A meet

BECKER — After one day of competition, the Sleepy Eye United boys’ golf team sits in a first-place tie with Fertile-Beltrami at the Class A state meet at Pebble Creek.

Both teams shot a Day 1 score of 321, two strokes ahead of Legacy Christian Academy (323). North Woods is fourth overall with a 346.

Leading the way for SEU is Carson Erickson, who is sixth overall with a 74. New Ulm Cathedral’s Logan Haala sits in eighth overall with a 77 and Springfield’s Mavrick Winkelmann shot a 77 and is in 13th place.

On the girls’ side, New Ulm Cathedral’s Kayla Goblirsch sits in a tie for fifth with an 87 and Minnesota Valley Lutheran’s Nadine Clobes is sitting in 13th with a 91. Cedar Mountian’s Morgan Engholm finished the first day with a 106 and is in 57th and SEU’s Liz Schwint is in 68th with a 112. MVL’s Abbie Riederer shot a 115.

Lac qui Parle Valley leads the team competition with a 354 and Park Christian is next with a 373.

Also for the boys, Toby Weiss shot a 79 for SEU and Logan Netzke shot an 82 and sits in 27th place overall. Springfield’s Christopher Thram shot an 83 and is 33rd and SEU’s Jack Nelson sits in 45th with an 86.
