NEW ULM -- New Ulm baseball will honor two people who made their mark on New Ulm this weekend in Friday and Sunday ceremonies at Johnson Park.
On Friday, retired New Ulm Cathedral baseball coach Bob Weier will join the late New Ulm Cathedral baseball coach Stan Wilfahrt and retired New Ulm High School baseball coach Jim Senske with his permanent plaque at Johnson Park.
Weier's plaque was donated by New Ulm Cathedral High School.
The ceremony will take place prior to the Greyhounds baseball game with BOLD at 6:30 p.m.
Weier coached the Greyhounds for 27 seasons and compiled a record of 427 wins and 190 losses. Under Weier, Cathedral appeared in four state tournaments, finishing third in 2009 and winning a state title in 2005.
Weier was inducted into the Minnesota Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2014 and the Cathedral High School Hall of Fame in 2019. Weier was a great teacher of the game as a coach for the Greyhounds and the summer baseball programs.
On Sunday, the late Jess Roiger, who passed away on November 18 of last year, will be honored prior to the 2 p.m. New Ulm Brewers-Hanska Tomahawk East League game.
Roiger, who was a member of the New Ulm Baseball Association and ran the scoreboard for 43 years, will be honored with a permanent sign below the scoreboard at Johnson Park which will read "Jess Roiger Memorial Scoreboard."
Roiger will also have a permanent bench at Mueller Park honoring him.
