Ranweiler commits to MSU-Mankato

NEW ULM — When Cole Ranweiler took his recruiting visit to Minnesota State University-Mankato, he said that after meeting the players and coaches on the Mavericks’ baseball team, it felt like it was the right place to be.

“It felt like family there,” he said.

And for Cole Ranweiler, it really is.

A senior at New Ulm High School, Cole Ranweiler becomes the fourth Ranweiler to sign with the Mavericks for baseball following father Brady, an uncle Cory and brother Hunter to the MSU-Mankato baseball program.

“There were good guys there and Hunter is going to be there, so it is going to be an easier transition to college,” Cole Ranweiler said. “It is good family tradition. I am very honored to go there and being the fourth Ranweiler to go there.”

Cole Ranweiler, a three-sport standout at NUHS in baseball, football and wrestling, said that there were other colleges who showed interest in him.

“Especially in the same (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) conference,” he said. “One of the other colleges was Augustana.”

He said that there were schools who showed interest in him for football and wrestling.

“But when I was younger, I made my decision that I wanted to play baseball in college.”

He also said that he does not know if he will red-shirt.

“We will have to see how it goes,” he said. “But I feel I am physically ready to take on a role right away. But obviously that is up to the coaches, and I will work with them on that.”

He added that the coaches at Minnesota State are looking at him either middle infield or outfield, but he thinks his speed will lead his coaches to putting him in the outfield.

And now next year at this time, the Ranweiler brothers will have the chance to share the field at the college level.

“Playing on the same college team with my brother is going to be awesome,” Cole Ranweiler said. “I have always wanted to play a full season with him. I have gotten to play a few games with him on the Brewers or legion.”

He is looking at majoring in either Automotive Engineering or Business.
