Milbrath agrees to terms with Twins

SPRINGFIELD — When spring training began for Major League Baseball, Springfield’s Jordan Milbrath’s agent received several phone calls from the Twins regarding the right-handed pitcher’s services.

“Nothing really materialized, and we got through spring training and we had not heard anything up until last week when the Triple-A season started,” Milbrath said. “The Triple-A season is a month behind the big leagues. But last week we heard from the Twins. We talked, and we got a deal done over this last weekend and now I am in Fort Meyers, Florida, which is the spring training facility for the Twins.”

Milbrath, who works as a financial advisor in Springfield, said that when he signed with the Twins, the original plan was to start training in Fort Meyers for a few weeks before being assigned.

“We originally talked about being in Fort Meyers for two to three weeks to train and then after that being assigned,” he said. “They could not guarantee me where that would be, but I am pretty hopeful that it will be the Triple-A St. Paul Saints. And if everything goes well, it will be the big leagues after that.”

Milbrath, who was with the Arizona Diamondbacks last year in spring training before being sent home because of COVID-19, played amateur baseball with Springfield.

But now he is back living the dream of making it to the majors with the Twins.

“Hopefully I can put something together and get up with the big leagues and help the Twins,” he said.
