Cathedral 8, ML/GHEC/T 3

TRUMAN — New Ulm Cathedral downed Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman on Thursday in nonconference baseball action.

The Greyhounds were led by Sam Knowles and Brody Kirschstein, who each had two hits and a run scored. Riley Prochniak got the win for Cathedral in four innings of work, giving up one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out four.

Cathedral (11-3) hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday.

Wabasso 11, Sleepy Eye 4

SLEEPY EYE — Wabasso topped Sleepy Eye 11-4 on Thursday in Tomahawk Conference baseball action.

Carter Benz got the win for the Rabbits in five innings of work, giving up one earned run on five hits and two walks while fanning four. Ty Altermatt was 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs at the plate for Wabasso, while Hunter Taylor was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.

Jackson Huiras took the loss on the mound for Sleepy Eye in four innings, giving up nine hits and a walk for three earned runs while striking out three. Arian Saenz was 3 for 4 at the plate for the Indians, while Nathan Sellner was 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored.

Sleepy Eye (7-7, 5-7) is at Mankato Loyola at 6 p.m. on Monday, while Wabasso (8-4, 7-3) is at Minneota on Monday.

St. Mary’s 6, GFW 3

WINTHROP — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 6-3 on Thursday in Tomahawk Conference baseball action.

The Knights were led by Joey Herzog and Owen Weiss, who each had a pair of hits, with Herzog adding two RBIs. Spencer Hoffman also homered for the Knights. Carson Domeier got the win in seven innings of work, giving up four hits for three runs while fanning four.

GFW was led by James Wickenhauser, Andreas Herrera and Ike Case, who each had a double. Zach Schwarzrock took the loss in four innings.

St. Mary’s (6-6, 5-6) hosts Minneapolis Southwest on Friday, while GFW (1-13, 0-12) hosts Martin County West on Tuesday.

Prep Softball

Springfield 12, MVL 7 (Game 1, 5 innings)

Springfield 20, MVL 4, (Game 2, 5 innings)

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield swept Minnesota Valley Lutheran 12-7 and 20-4 on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference softball doubleheader.

Megan Ploeger was 2 for 3 with five RBIs and two homers to lead Springfield in Game 1, while Brenna Pabet was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Brooklyn Sturm also had a homer in Game 1 for the Tigers. Jaeli Richert got the win in Game 1 with five strikeouts.

MVL was led by Grace Bauer’s pair of doubles and RBI in Game 1, while Grace Rich had a hit and two RBIs,

In Game 2, Sturm had two homers, three hits total and seven RBIs for the Tigers, while Richert had a homer and two hits total with three RBIs. Richert got the win in Game 2 in two innings of work.

MVL’s Haley Ditch had a homer and three RBIs in Game 2, while Samantha Dalueg had a double.

MVL (0-11, 0-11) is at Martin County West on Friday, while Springfield (12-4, 10-3) is at Windom on Monday.

Madelia 8, JWP 4

JANESVILLE — Madelia topped Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 8-4 on Thursday in Valley Conference softball action.

The Blackhawks were led by Addie Ahern’s 2 for 5 day at the plate. She also had an RBI and two runs scored, while Anna Osuna had a double and an RBI. Corban Tatro got the win in the circle in seven innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and two walks while fanning six.

Madelia (7-6, 2-4) hosts United South Central on Friday.

BLHS 1, Nicollet 0

NICOLLET — No. 3-ranked Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart edged Nicollet 1-0 on Thursday in nonconference softball action.

No stats were reported for either team.

Nicollet is at Truman on Friday, while BLHS hosts No. 7-ranked New Ulm Cathedral on Friday for a doubleheader.

Prep Golf

MVL girls finish 2nd, boys 3rd at Terrace View

MANKATO — The MVL girls’ golf team finished second (210), while the boys took third (199) on Thursday in a prep golf quad at the Terrace View Golf Course.

Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton took first for the girls (206), while St. Clair/Loyola took first for the boys (165).

Nadine Clobes and Abbie Riederer each shot a 49 to lead the MVL girls, while Ben Pearson (47) and Bradon Kock (48) led the MVL boys.

New Ulm girls, boys take 3rd at Redwood Valley meet

REDWOOD FALLS — The Redwood Valley girls’ golf team finished with a first-place score of 375 against St. Peter (396) and New Ulm (408) on Thursday in Big South Conference golf.

The St. Peter boys’ team took first (304) at the meet, while Redwood Valley took second (329) and New Ulm took third (353).

Paige Dreckman and Kate Frauenholtz each shot a 100 to lead the New Ulm girls, while Paige Jacobs shot a 103 and Alyssa Nelson shot a 105.

Evan Griebel led the New Ulm boys with an 84, while Josh Gulden shot an 87 and Kyle Esser and Will Fossen each shot a 91.

Springfield boys take 1st at RRC meet

SANBORN — The Springfield boys’ golf team took first (177) out of three teams during a prep golf meet at Sanborn on Thursday.

Springfield’s Mavrick Winkelmann medaled (37), while Christopher Thram shot a 43 for second. Red Rock Central, who finished second at the meet, saw Matthew Horning lead the boys with a 49.

The girls’ part of the meet had just RRC field a full team, with Baily Timm shooting a 50 for RRC to lead.

Sleepy Eye United boys, girls take 1st in Madelia

MADELIA — Sleepy Eye United’s boys’ and girls’ golf team finished first at a Madelia prep golf quad on Thursday, with the boys scoring a 159 and the girls scoring a 248.

SEU’s Carson Erickson was the medalist with a 36, while Logan Netzke shot a 39.

Liz Scwhint led the SEU girls’ team and medaled with a 51, while Sam Price shot a 64.
