New Ulm tennis team tops Mankato East

New Ulm 5, Mankato East 2

NEW ULM — New Ulm stayed unbeaten with a 5-2 victory over Mankato East on Monday in boys’ tennis action.

Isaac Blumhoefer won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Max Gieseke picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory at second singles. Joey Gag won 6-4, 6-1 at third singles and Ben Brownfield won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

In doubles action, Nathaniel Janssen and Leo Waloch won 6-1, 4-6, 10-4 at first doubles. Adler Johnson and Guillaume Bibbee of Mankato East defeated Tate Trullinger and Cody Gilman 7-6, 5-7, 10-4 and Dylen Carreon and Isaac Davis lost 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.

New Ulm is at Hutchinson on Friday.

Prep softball

St. Peter 2, New Ulm 0

ST. PETER — St. Peter defeated New Ulm in a Big South Conference softball game on Monday.

Miranda Suess took the loss for New Ulm. She went six innings, allowed five hits and two runs. She struck out two and walked three.

Laura Bertrang, Emma Brudelie and Amber Gleisner each had a hit for the Eagles, who travel to Marshall on Tuesday.

Springfield 10, Cathedral 4

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield handed New Ulm Cathedral a Tomahawk Conference softball loss on Monday.

For Springfield, Maddy Digmann went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Jaeli Richert scored three runs and drove in two and Megan Ploeger had three RBIs. Astrid Ramirez was 3 for 4 with two runs scored.

Jalivia Richert earned the win, allowing five hits and four runs. She struck out two.

For Cathedral, Kiah Helget had two RBIs. Megan Haala took the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits in six innings.

Cathedral hosts Tri City United on Tuesday and Springfield hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran in a doubleheader on Thursday.

BLHS 6, Sleepy Eye 0

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Sleepy Eye in Tomahawk Conference softball action on Monday.

Stephanie Fernandez went 1 for 3 for Sleepy Eye. Katelyn Tauer took the loss, going seven innings and allowing three walks. She struck out five.

Sleepy Eye is at Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman on Tuesday.

GFW 6, Wabasso 5

WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop edged Wabasso in a Tomahawk Conference softball game on Monday.

Brooklyn Werner earned the win, allowing seven hits and five earned runs in seven innings. She struck out 10. Sarah Franta took the loss, allowing six earned runs on nine hits. She struck out four in 6 2/3 innings.

Sophia Hanna went 3 for 4 with a double for the Rabbits. Rylee Sabo went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, a double and two RBIs for the Thunderbirds. Hanna Schroeder was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Lexi Rettig was 2 for 3 with a run scored, an RBI and a double for GFW.

Wabasso hosts Sleepy Eye on Thursday and GFW is at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Thursday.

St. Mary’s 12, MVL 6

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s handed Minnesota Valley Lutheran a Tomahawk Conference baseball loss on Monday.

Owen Weiss earned the win for the Knights. He went four innings, allowed six runs, seven hits, and he struck out four. Brandon Schmitz pitched three innings, allowed one hit and struck out four.

Caleb Carlovsky pitched three innings, allowed nine runs on six hits for the Chargers. Mitchell Ulrich went four innings and allowed three runs.

Offensively for St. Mary’s, Carson Domeier was 3 for 3 with four RBIs and Patrick Hoffmann was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Jacob Lux was 3 for 5 with three RBIs and Caleb Schumacher was 2 for 3 with a double. Kyle Goblirsch went 2 for 4.

For MVL, Leyton Brau went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs and Josh Giefer was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Cole Thompson was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

St. Mary’s is at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday and MVL hosts Maple River on Tuesday at Mueller Park.

Wabasso 8, GFW 5

WABASSO — Wabasso defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Monday in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game.

For GFW, Ike Case had a pair of hits and three RBIs and James Wickenhauser had three hits. Dominic Johnson finished with two hits.

Wabasso’s Hunter Taylor had a double and a single and two RBIs. He stole a base and had two runs scored. Will Carlson had a single and a double and two RBIs and two stolen bases for the Rabbits.

Wabasso is at Sleepy Eye on Thursday and GFW hosts St. Mary’s on Thursday.

Prep baseball (Saturday)

Hutchinson 5, New Ulm 1

HUTCHINSON — Hutchinson defeated New Ulm in a prep baseball game on Saturday.

New Ulm had seven hits in the game and Caleb Arndt scored the only run for the Eagles. Ethan Stade gave up five runs in five innings, striking out two and walking three.

New Ulm 14, Austin 0

NORTH MANKATO — Gracie Linbo was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a double for New Ulm in the first game. Brudelie and Ella Freiderich each went 1 for 3. Karson Schmid pitched five innings and allowed seven hits, three runs and had seven strikeouts.

Ramsey Hopp was 3 for 4 with a run scored and four RBIs for New Ulm. Bertrang was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and Freiderich was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Linbo was 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Suess earned the win, pitching two innings and allowing two hits.

St. Mary’s 11, Sleepy Eye 1

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Sleepy Eye in six innings on Saturday. Julia Helget and Isabella Hoffmann went 2 for 4 for the Knights.
