MANKATO — Martin Luther College sophomore Elena Hoffman became the MLC softball program’s all-time home run leader with her 16 career home run on Monday, May 3, at Bethany Lutheran College.

Hoffman’s home run pushed her ahead of Karla Opperman (’12), whose record of 15 home runs she tied earlier this season.

Hoffman raced onto the scene in her first season in 2019 when she tied the MLC single-season record with eight home runs on the way to Honorable Mention All-UMAC honors.

As a sophomore in 2020, Hoffman got off to an even better start, hitting six home runs in her first 10 games during the team’s trip to Florida before the season was canceled due to COVID-19.

This season, Hoffman has started all 24 games for MLC in the middle of the order and is hitting .364 with two home runs, five doubles, 20 runs batted in (RBI) and 15 runs scored.

For her career, Hoffman is hitting .385 with 16 home runs, 69 RBI, 43 runs scored, and a .723 slugging percentage. That batting average currently ranks second on the MLC career records list.
