MLC roundup: Rams hold off MLC men, MLC women fall to Cougars

Men’s Basketball

NCU 67, MLC 50

NEW ULM — The Martin Luther College men’s basketball team was unable to overcome the first-place North Central University Rams in a 67-60 defeat on Thursday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action.

Jack Heichelbech led MLC with 18 points, while Joey Behm added 16 points and seven rebounds. Jonathan Riebe scored 10 points to lead the MLC bench.

The Knights fell to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in UMAC play in defeat. NCU improved to 7-5 on the season and 5-0 in league play with the win.

MLC returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it travels to take on St. Scholastica.

Women’s Basketball

UMN Morris 73, MLC 63

MORRIS — Minnesota Morris held off Martin Luther College 73-63 on Thursday night in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball action.

The Knights were led by Erika Gosch’s 14 points, while Emily Witkowski added 12 points and five rebounds. Jordyn Heckendorf also added 10 points for MLC, while Anna Treder added 8 points and 11 rebounds and Emma Nelson added 5 points and 12 rebounds.

MLC, now 1-8 overall and 0-4 in UMAC play, host St. Scholastica on Saturday.
