Nicollet 68, Madelia 50
MADELIA -- Nicollet got a balanced scoring effort on Thursday night in Valley Conference boys' basketball action, leading the Raiders to a 68-50 win over Madelia at Madelia High School.
Riley Hulke led the Raiders with 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while Colton Thomsen added 17 points and eight boards. Also for Nicollet, Shane Stevensen had 15 points and Jon Mans had 14 points and five assists.
Ja'Sean Glover led the Blackhawks with 34 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Nicollet (4-2, 1-0) hosts a holiday tournament starting Dec. 27, while Madelia (2-5, 0-1) hosts Martin County West on Jan. 6.
Sibley East 46, TCU 41
ARLINGTON -- SIbley East got past Tri-City United 46-41 on Thursday night for its first win of the season in Minnesota River Conference boys' basketball action.
JaBez Bates led the Wolverines with 14 points, while Luca Tesch and Aaron Flieth added 9 points each.
Sibley East (1-5, 1-2) next plays in the Redwood Valley Tournament from Dec. 27-28.
Girls' basketball
Cedar Mountain 53,
HLO/F 48
OKABENA -- Cedar Mountain picked up its first win of the season on Thursday night with a 53-48 win over Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda in nonconference girls' basketball action.
Trista Smith led the Cougars with 14 points, while Kailee Larsen had 11 points. Megan Sandgren had a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Cougars also.
Cedar Mountain (1-6) next takes on Windom at the Windom Holiday Tournament at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 27.
GSL 56, GFW 36
WINTHROP -- Glencoe-Silver Lake topped Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 56-36 on Thursday night in nonconference girls' basketball action.
GSL was led by Kendall Guerrero's 19 points.
The Thunderbirds were led by Brynn Busse, who had 10 points.
GFW will next take on Waterville-Elysian-Morristown at the Tri-City United Holiday Jamboree on Dec. 27.
Girls' hockey
New Ulm 8,
Mankato West 1
MANKATO -- New Ulm downed Mankato West 8-1 on Thursday night in nonconference girls' hockey action.
Molly Scheid recorded a hat trick for New Ulm, while Alexa Steffl scored two goals. Jayda Helget, Morgan Klein and Madi O'Connor each added a goal for the Eagles.
Also for New Ulm, McKenna Strong had four assists, while Julia Helget had two assists. New Ulm goalie Ava Brennan stopped four of five West shots, while the Eagles put up 46 shots.
New Ulm is next at the Sartell-St. Stephen Invite on Dec. 26-27.
