St. Croix Lutheran defeats MVL girls, Springfield goes 2-1 at Wabasso/RRC

St. Croix Lutheran 82, MVL 45

NEW ULM — St. Croix Lutheran crushed Minnesota Valley Lutheran at the MLC Tipoff Tournament on Saturday morning.

Abbie Riederer led the Chargers with 15 points and Emma Nelson had 12 points.

MVL is at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Monday.

BLHS 69, Wabasso 28

WABASSO — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart had no problem in defeating Wabasso in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game on Saturday.

Maddy Wulkan scored 20 points for the Mustangs. Sara Kottke had 13 points and Kristi Kottke scored 11.

Sleepy Eye 61, RCW 32

RENVILLE — Sleepy Eye defeated Renville County West in prep girls’ basketball action on Saturday.

The Indians were led by Kadence Hesse with 17 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and four assists. Kaydince Thoms had 16 points, nine rebounds and five steals and Brittney Dittbenner had 15 points and six rebounds.

Springfield goes 2-1 at Wabasso/RRC quad

LAMBERTON — Springfield had its first wrestling match on its own in over 30 years on Friday, going 2-1 at the Wabasso/Red Rock Central quadrangular.

The Tigers defeated Luverne 42-30, then lost to Wabasso 54-15 before defeating Madelia-Truman/Martin Luther 48-24.

Owen Bertram went 3-0 at 126 pounds and Ashtin Johnson went 3-0 at 160. Wyatt Schmit went 2-1 with two pins at 120, Joe Anderson went 2-1 at 152, Ethan Langseth went 2-1 at 170, Dan Bryer went 2-1 at 182, Mason Rummel went 2-1 at 220, and Ashton Danielson went 2-1 at heavyweight for the Tigers.

Worthington 59,

New Ulm 43

FAIRMONT — Worthington defeated New Ulm in the Big South Conference Showcase in prep boys’ basketball action on Saturday.

For New Ulm, Reece Melby led the way with 18 points.

New Ulm hosts Delano on Tuesday.
