MLC roundup: MLC men, women fall to North Central

Men’s basketball
North Central 94, MLC 87
MINNEAPOLIS — The Martin Luther College men’s basketball team was unable to contain hot-shooting North Central in a 94-87 loss on Wednesday.
The Rams entered the game shooting 33.7 percent from beyond the 3-point arc, but made 17 of 28 attempts (60.7 percent) in Wednesday’s game.
Five MLC players finished in double figures, led by Ethan Eisenmann’s 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jonathan Riebe and Jack Heichelbech each scored 15 points, while Ian Paulsen and Jared Witkowiak scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Knights (1-5, 0-3) will return to action on Saturday when they host Maranatha Baptist.
Women’s basketball
North Central 74, MLC 60
MINNEAPOLIS — The Martin Luther College women’s basketball team lost 74-60 at North Central on Wednesday.
The Knights battled on the defensive end, forcing 27 NCU turnovers and holding the Rams to 4-of-15 shooting from beyond the 3-point line, but they struggled on the offensive end.
MLC shot 27.2 percent from the field and had trouble finishing inside and outside. The Knights were outscored 40-24 in the paint, and also went 4-25 from beyond the arc.
The Rams built a 34-25 lead heading into halftime and pushed the lead to as many as 19 points early in the fourth quarter.
MLC battled back, cutting the deficit to 13 points on several occasions, but was unable to cut the deficit into single digits before the final horn.
Emily Witkowski was the lone MLC player in double figures with 16 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds and recorded a team-high four assists.
Also for MLC, Ally Platzer added 9 points, while Cassandra Rose grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.
The Knights (0-10, 0-3) will return to action on Dec. 20, when they host Luther in a nonconference game.
