MLC soccer roundup: MLC men tie with Crown

Men’s soccer

MLC 2, Crown 2

ST. BONIFACIUS — Two overtime periods weren’t enough for Martin Luther College or Crown College on Wednesday night in nonconference men’s soccer action, as the two teams ended the night with a 2-2 tie.

MLC (3-6-2) trailed 1-0 after the first half before Jon Pedersen scored a low goal to tie it up on an assist from Lucas Martin and Clay Hirsch in the 55th minute. MLC then benefited on an own goal by Crown for a 2-1 lead before Harvey Holcombe tied it on a low goal in the 82nd minute to help lead to overtime.

Neither team was able to score in either of the two rainy overtime periods, and the game ended in a tie. Josh Higgins had four saves in goal for MLC.

MLC outshot Crown 23-13 and had eight shots on goal to Crown’s six.

Women’s soccer

Crown 2, MLC 1

ST. BONIFACIUS — The Martin Luther College women’s soccer team lost its nonconference game at Crown College 2-1 on Wednesday night.

The two teams played in the cold and rain throughout the night, but MLC (4-5) took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Lydia Bitter in the eighth minute.

That lead would be short lived, however, as the Storm scored in the 29th minute to send the game to halftime 1-1.

MLC pressed in the second half, but Crown scored the lone goal after the break in the 55th minute on the way to the win.

Bitter’s goal was her team-leading fifth of the season. The Knights outshot the Storm 25-13 overall and 7-5 in shots on goal.

MLC keeper Mollie Fischer stopped three of the five shots she faced in goal.

Starting at $4.50/week.
