Area roundup: Thunderbirds top St. Clair in 4

GFW 3, St. Clair 1

ST. CLAIR — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop took down St. Clair 17-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-17 on Thursday night in nonconference volleyball action.

The Thunderbirds were led by Shelby Ramirez’s 17 kills and three blocks, while Hannah Panitzke added 10 kills and 18 digs. Also for GFW, Brynn Busse had 16 set assists and 11 digs, while Hannah Thorsen had 13 set assists and Katie Lee had 20 digs.

Jaedan Nachreiner and Julia Schweiss also each added three blocks apiece for GFW, while Hana Schroeder was 17 for 17 serving and Lee was 16 for 16 serving.

GFW next hosts Norwood Young America at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Cedar Mountain 3, Madelia 1

MADELIA — Cedar Mountain defeated Madelia 24-26, 25-18, 25-8, 25-16 on Thursday in a nonconference volleyball match.

Nadia Meyers had 17 set assists, eight kills and eight digs for Cedar Mountain. Also for Cedar Mountain, Mykenna Vollmer had 16 set assists, seven kills and 17 digs, Trista Smith had four kills, 19 digs and one block, Maddie Rose had 13 kills and six ace serves and Morgan Engholm had 21 digs.

Madelia was led by Emily Stevenson, who had two ace serves, seven kills, 15 digs and 14 assists. Also for Madelia, Jovana Cortez had two ace serves, one kill and eight digs, Lillian Maul had 22 digs, Dora Facundo had 20 digs and one ace serve and Malia Schwanke had 15 digs.

Madelia plays at United South Central at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Wells. Cedar Mountain plays at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Wabasso.

Boys’ soccer

St. Peter 2, New Ulm 0

ST. PETER — St. Peter shut out New Ulm 2-0 on Thursday evening in a Big South Conference boys’ soccer match.

Josh Rackozy had six saves for the Eagles in net.

New Ulm next plays at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday in Marshall.

Girls’ soccer

New Ulm 1, St. Peter 1, OT

ST. PETER — New Ulm and St. Peter tied 1-1 on Thursday in a Big South Conference girls’ soccer game.

Bryn Nesvold scored off an assist from Madison Roufs in the second half to tie the game.

Kendra Nesvold ad 14 saves for New Ulm.

New Ulm hosts Marshall at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
