American ekes out narrow win over Sleepy Eye Post 7

SLEEPY EYE — Mankato American eked by Sleepy Eye Legion Post 7 with a 5-4 win on Friday afternoon in Upper Midwest Classic baseball action.

Post 7 (8-6) was led by Carter Brinkman, who went 4 for 4 with three RBIs, two doubles and a triple, while Nathan Walter was 2 for 3 with a run scored.

Jacob Berg took the loss on the mound in seven innings of work, allowing one earned run on eight hits and a walk with a pair of strikeouts.

All games on Friday were pushed back an hour due to a morning rain delay. Heavy rain returned later in the evening and canceled the remaining UMC games that night as a result. Post 7 was scheduled to take on Marshall at 6:30 p.m. Friday but will no longer play that game.

Post 7 will return to their home field at 12:30 p.m. in Sleepy Eye Saturday against Brandon Valley, which took down Marshall 6-1 on Friday.

All teams will then find out their placement and next opponents for Saturday after all 12:30 p.m. games are finished. Pool placement is determined by runs allowed.
