NEW ULM — Martin Luther College softball player Samantha Schoch was named Second Team All-Midwest Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Wednesday.

Schoch earned the honor as the team’s designated player after a stellar sophomore campaign in which she finished second on the Knights in both batting average (.405) and on-base percentage (.500), while also recording a team-best 13 walks to go with six doubles, 16 runs scored and nine runs batted in.

Schoch was even better during Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play, hitting .432 while starting all 16 games as the team’s designated player.

Schoch is one of five UMAC players to earn All-Region honors from the NFCA, and one of only two players to be named to the first or second team.
