The most important piece of making a democracy work (besides actually heeding the voice of the people) is that people vote. This election is different than most, however. While historically we could all vote for candidates holding policies reflecting our conservative or our progressive viewpoint and expect responsible government from either, currently the GOP party is in the grasp of a cruel, greedy, immoral, self-centered and vindictive man, mired in corruption. He cares nothing for average folks like you and us, recklessly starting wars without regard to cost or human life, imposing tariffs that have driven up our cost of living to intolerable levels, making promises of money which never materialized (e.g. the tariff "refund" of $2,000, the "DOGE" refund of up to $5,000), alienating our friends (see Canada) and making deals with our enemies (see Russia).
His current bribe to stay in power, the "Trump Dividend", is another hollow offer, which if actually carried out would add $1.2 trillion to the national debt and continue to drive up inflation. So here we are, with gas and diesel prices well over $4/gallon and $6/gallon (and a President who on Oct. 24 said about that: "I don't give a damn, we're making a freaking fortune."), inflation up an impossible 9.25% since his inauguration, heavy production costs for farmers, changes in health insurance policies which have driven up costs and caused loss of coverage, and major uncertainty in the world order. Today, in this election, a vote for a GOP candidate, no matter how principled those candidates may otherwise be, will be a vote to support a party directed by a corrupt and self-centered man who gets richer and more powerful by the day, at the expense of us common Americans. Please vote – use your secure ballot next week to vote for relief, vote for affordability, vote to dismantle this administration and the chance to bring peace and prosperity back to our beloved country.
