A leader with professional experience

2 min read

We are writing to voters in Senate District 15 concerning the two candidates for office, Braxton Seifert and Andrea Boettger. The most obvious difference between the two is their life's journey thus far.

Life experiences shape goals, attitudes, philosophies, level of compassion, wisdom, and personal growth. These two candidates are worlds apart in their life's journey.

Braxton Seifert is 21 years old and his web page lists several boards that he serves on and lists his volunteer efforts. He is to be commended for starting his journey working to help others. However, in this brief period, these efforts are insufficient to qualify him for election to the state senate.

His father's political career and employment in Marshall education institutions give him name recognition. Name recognition is not a substitute for accomplishments; a career in politics should be based on personal merits. He needs more time to earn the honor and privilege of being a state senator

Andrea Boettger on the other hand has an impressive array of accomplishments and experience in public service. This mother of young sons works for the betterment of her community. She is in her second four-year term as President of the New Ulm City Council (annual budget $29+ million) She serves on regional boards that work for rural towns and cities. She is executive director of operations at Turner Hall, a large Brown County Historical site that has a gymnasium, restaurant, and bar used for many social occasions.

In a Sept. 20 interview with the New Ulm Journal Andrea talks about how decisions made at the state level impact local governments and how their council has had to work to adjust and absorb changes. She cited the effects of the legislative tug-of-war between the metro and out-state areas over funding and regulations. She has experience dealing with these issues at local and regional levels.

She has a record of bipartisan work for those in rural areas. This deserves respect from all people; she has earned the honor of being elected to the office of State Senator from District 15.
