Remember the board game Monopoly? Here's an interesting tidbit about the original premise of the game and how we can compare it to our current economic situation. The game Monopoly was originally designed by Elizabeth Magie in 1903. It was originally called The Landlord's Game and was designed as an educational and political tool.
The intent was to show how private land ownership and monopolies lead to extreme wealth inequality and the inevitable bankruptcy of everyone else. The game was built on luck, not skill, to show the economic dominance was driven by chance and rigged systems rather than true merit. Like the game of Monopoly most U.S. citizens are paying more and more to the people who are holding the cards. Their economic dominance is rigging nearly everything that touches our daily lives; things such as groceries, health care, taxes, tariffs, fuel costs, insurance costs, utilities, and interest rates. These services are controlled by extremely wealthy individuals that hide under the guise of corporations. They have bought the politicians that claim they are here to serve us. Their ownership of our elected officials has given them the advantage to get tax cuts which only grows their wealth exponentially and leaves the rest of us paying the bill.
We need to elect officials that will no longer serve monopolies but create a better playing field by strengthening smaller businesses and allowing fair trade thus offering prosperity for all of us. I believe Congressional District 1 candidate Jake Johnson understands this and deserves your vote because he will work toward taking us out of the game of Monopoly and putting us back into the game of Life.
