I tuned in to the New Ulm League of Women Voters District 15 Candidate Forum recently.
There was quite a contrast between the two Senate candidates in Andrea Boettger and Braxton Seifert. Boettger has accomplished much in her 47 years while Seifert is just getting started as a 21-year-old.
Boettger was well spoken and showed that she has done the homework in preparation for representing us in the Minnesota Senate. She has excelled as the President of the very active and forward-looking New Ulm City Council. She is on the Board of Directors of the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities and serves as the Chair of the Region Nine Development Commission.
Seifert is active in his community, fully employed, and is a budding entrepreneur as an auctioneer. His brief resume is commendable, but do we want a 21-year-old opportunist or a seasoned professional representing us?
I worked with and observed Boettger while we shared employment at SouthPoint Financial Credit Union. In my dealings with her she always asked a lot of questions, was very mindful of details and was a positive and good-natured co-worker.
In her employment as the executive director of New Ulm Turner Hall, Boettger leads a large, historic non-profit that is continuously upgrading its capital and serving many important functions for the general public. Fraud is a huge issue this election cycle, and Boettger is well-positioned to play a role in addressing it from her public and private experience.
To our benefit there are many well qualified women on the ballot this fall. I challenge the women (and men) of District 15 to step up and support our own well qualified woman, Andrea Boettger for District 15 Senator.
