ICE violence is costly

2 min read

Violence spirals more violence. Authentic good will inspires good will. What is sown is reaped.

Our president has engaged us in Epic Fury in the middle east, a region where cyclic fury and revenge have been epic for centuries. The ICE surge brought violence against neighbors in our communities and deeply harmed Minnesota's local economies. The cost ($43 billion and $75 billion, respectively) accelerated our debt to $40 trillion, all this leaving a legacy of spiraling debt and cyclic violence for our grandchildren.

Tariffs and the blockage of trade through the Strait of Hormuz are the cause of current high inflation and exorbitant gas prices. The choice was optional. The president didn't have to do this. Congress could have said no.

We are painfully weary of the president's threats and coercion: to our Allies, our trading partners, Greenland, the Nobel Prize Committee, the Federal Reserve, free independent press, election officials, voters, universities, lawyers, judges, TV networks, Smithsonian leaders, and the list goes on...and on...

We mourn the destruction of and/or great harm to: people of color, US AID and its life-saving HIV treatment, the people of Gaza, our relationship with our Canadian neighbors, NATO, thoughtful Republican leaders who didn't "toe the line," the health safety work of the FDA, medical science and research, sustainable energy, integrity, the "killing without trial" of over 230 sailors on alleged drug boats, and the list goes on...and on...

We are deeply troubled by the actions of our president, and the deaf ear we received from our current congressman during the height of the ICE violence. In contrast, we yearn for an alternative spiral of genuine care and dignity for all. One candidate is a demonstrated listener and responsive leader. Please vote for Jake Johnson for the US House.
