Two guys in the news lately are Kim Jong Un and Mark Carney. President Trump takes pains to be polite and respectful to Kim while he tries to bulldoze Carney into dust.
Kim Jong Un is the supreme leader of North Korea. When his father died in 2011, State television identified him as "the great successor to the revolutionary cause." Since then he has become marshal of the Korean National Party, secretary of the Workers Party of Korea, president of the State Affairs Commission, commander-in-chief of the Korean Armed Forces and chairman of the Central Military Commission. Whatever Kim says is the law in North Korea.
Kim has presided over offshore nuclear bomb tests. Anyone suspected of opposing Kim disappears. This includes members of Kim's family.
Kim has health problems connected to his weight and is extremely wealthy. Dennis Rodman (teammate of Michael Jordan) described his visit to a private island owned by Kim, "It's like Hawaii or Aruba or Belize but he's the only one that lives there."
Mark Carney is the prime minister of Canada. He has a bachelor's degree from Harvard and a doctorate from Oxford. He worked for Goldman Sachs for 13 years before joining the Bank of Canada. He worked in the Department of Finance Canada until he became the governor of the Bank of Canada. He has been the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he became the special advisor to prime minister Justin Trudeau. In 2026 Canadians elected Carney as the prime minister of Canada.
Since then Carney has overseen the removal of the consumer carbon tax and a considerable rise in defense spending. He has supported Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian War, and he has improved diplomatic relations with China and India.
Carney seems the clear choice to be an American ally. Donald Trump, however, prefers Kim.
