Not the first time

To the editor:

I was happy to see in Saturday’s Journal that NUHS is bringing back “The Man Who Came to Dinner” for it’s spring play. As a student director, Josie Ringhofer has taken on a daunting task, but she is a remarkably talented young woman, and I’m sure this will be a great production.

The article poses the question of whether the school has ever put on this play before, and it most definitely did. Carol Ackerson directed it as the senior play in the fall of 1966, and like all of the plays she and Bob Jenson directed, it was excellent. As a new member of the stage crew, I worked the lights for it, and remember that John Morris was a standout as Banjo, and that Steve Somsen was in top form as Sheridan Whiteside. His opening line, delivered off-stage in his booming baritone, remains vivid in my memory. I hope the students involved in this year’s production will have as much fun with their production as we did.
