Does abortion promote peace?

To the editor:

If we as a society continue to turn a blind eye to abortion and what it really is then we can never expect to see peace in our world.

Advocates for abortion say that Pro-life views and legislation are extreme and cannot be allowed to put the safety and reproductive rights of a woman at risk. However, this is the very definition of an oxymoron. In order to protect one person’s rights we must kill another? This is a grave injustice in a world that demands justice at the drop of a hat.

If we truly seek reproductive rights and we truly want autonomy over our own bodies, then I believe the answer should be in education. We need to educate people that human beings do not have the right to kill another human being. We need to educate our young people about their bodies, how they work, and when abstinence, chastity, and personal responsibility will serve them well. Lastly, we need to educate about what it means if a woman is pregnant and needs support.

Abortion does not protect women. Our families and communities need to step up to support and protect these women who feel they are without options. I would ask that our legislators promote bills that protect the life of both mother and child by reducing and/or eliminating abortion and instead focus our time, efforts, and dollars on resources to help women. A woman should feel she can bring a child into the world, she can choose adoption, and she can live a full and healthy life by saying no to an abortion.
