A memorable Veterans Day
To the editor:
Veterans Day, Nov. 11, is also my wife Mary’s birthday (as well as her sister Nancy’s). It’s become something of a tradition for us to go to George’s Fine Steaks and Spirits for dinner that night.
Last Friday night we arrived at 6 p.m. Quite a crowd on hand so we had to sit at the bar for a short while. I took a seat next to a young man wearing an Army hat. I had on my Vietnam Veteran hat. We struck up a conversation. A very friendly young guy, there alone. An Afghanistan vet, I learned.
After dinner, we did a quick calculation. Our bill would be somewhere on the high side of $100. We went up to pay but were told we owed nothing. The young guy wearing the Army hat had already paid for it. I looked around. He was gone. All l could learn was that his name was Jason and he works in Sleepy Eye.
I want to find Jason. I want him to know that this world could use a whole lot more Jasons and that he made this Veterans Day one I will never forget. If you happen to know Jason, please let me know.
