Jill Abahsain for MN 7th
To the editor:
New congressional district lines put me the 7th congressional district, represented by Michelle Fischbach. Republicans in general have left reality and their oaths behind, working against domestic tranquility and the general welfare. What about Fischbach?
Fischbach disputed the Electoral College count on Jan. 6, 2021. Stop the Steal is not based on evidence. Election fraud claims have failed in multiple courts, including those with Trump-appointed judges, and results upheld in audits and recounts, even those led by Trump supporters.
Her October newsletter says Democrats are sending “an IRS army to audit the middle-class.” No, the IRS budget had been slashed, and $80 billion over 10 years will improve customer service, computer systems, and compliance. High incomes are the focus of audits. She says Democrats targeted parents as “domestic terrorists.” No, the National School Boards Association asked the White House for help with violence and death threats against board members, saying they “could be the equivalent to a form of domestic terrorism.” Garland approved investigations of criminal conduct, not people expressing opinions.
What about her votes? If she’s concerned about fighting inflation (which affects every country and has global causes) why did she vote against bills to improve supply chains and lower food and fuel costs? Why vote against the infrastructure bill, then request money from it?
Some of her NO votes were against the right to access contraception, fixing the infant formula shortage, preventing domestic violence. Against expanded access to mental health in schools to prevent shootings. Against extending the GI bill to the National Guard and the Honoring Our PACT Act. Against protecting older employees from discrimination, and against Medicare negotiating drug prices. When your party literally demonizes Democrats it’s probably dangerous to vote with them.
Fischbach is a Republican Study Committee Caucus member. Their plan would raise the Medicare eligibility age, raise the retirement age to 70, means test Social Security benefits, and begin to privatize Social Security. Trump promised a “beautiful” health care plan was two weeks away – for 4 years running – but there was none. But Republicans have plenty of plans for Social Security, from cuts to elimination. Who believes Republicans will vote to reinstate “entitlement” programs if they pass Rick Scott’s plan to just let them disappear if they sit back and do nothing?
Republicans also talk about threatening default unless these programs are cut. Crazy, because the Social Security trust fund holds 9% of the debt. Military retirement holds 4%. Individuals, banks and other institutions hold almost 40%. They’ll hurt us either way – what a great deal.
We need reality, tranquility, and representatives who vote for the common good.
Vote for DFL candidate Jill Abahsain in CD7.
