To the editor:

I support all schools. Everyone is entitled to receive a good education. An education creates good citizens and good neighbors who bring vitality to a community through the sharing of ideas and investment of time and energy. A good education must include feeling safe, recognized, and valued. Personal welfare must include feeling safe, recognized, and valued. I read with concern, an October 18th article in the Minneapolis Star/Tribune which reported on our community’s school board election. The article quoted a school board candidate critical of the current board as saying “Wherever diversity, equity and inclusion become part of the focus of an organization…what the core mission of that organization is suffers,” and “We don’t want divisiveness in our schools, and this is the breeding ground for it.”

In my opinion diversity, equity, and inclusion do not create divisiveness, but fomenting mistrust and maintaining past biases do. Please vote to re-elect Groebner, Sunderman, and Gag to the District 88 school board.
