PPP loan repayment for nursing homes

To the editor:

There was an article in The Journal, Nov. 6 which mentioned a problem I am quite concerned about.

Skilled care facilities have a hard time keeping up with all they need to do because of funding. This means even as they would like to increase wages for employees, they are often unable to.

We have visited family, friends, neighbors at Oak Hills Living Center over the years.

This facility is top notch. Looks very homey and comfortable. I have yet to talk with anyone who wasn’t pleased with the care given. These care givers are gems. They must truly care about their patients or they would not give the quality care they do.

Oak Hills applied for and was granted a loan through the PPP (Paycheck Protection Program). Now they find they must repay this through the CMS (Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services). This is planned by reducing funding rates for next year. I can only imagine how this will affect them.

It is my understanding hospitals and clinics had their loans forgiven. Why?

This is so unfair. I would ask each of you to PLEASE write to our senators and 1st District congressman about this issue. If enough do perhaps this can be changed.

If you write by email it is very easy to find their email addresses on line. If hard copy letter the correct addresses are listed on the editorial page of The Journal under Political Directory.

You can also donate memorial gifts or just outright gifts to them.
