Gigi Rysdahl says that "the planet is not in peril." Don't worry, she says, "[God's] got the whole world in His hands." Pope Francis offers a more sobering perspective in his 2015 environment statement, "On Care for Our Common Home."
He says, "this is the way human beings contrive to feed their self-destructive vices: trying not to see them, trying not to acknowledge them, delaying the important decisions and pretending that nothing will happen." He acknowledges that "climate change is a global problem with grave implications: environmental, social, economic, political...it represents one of the principal challenges facing humanity in our day." He reminds all people of good will that "the natural environment is a collective good, the patrimony of all humanity and the responsibility of everyone." He warns that "doomsday predictions can no longer be met with irony or disdain; we need to reflect on our accountability before those who will have to endure the dire consequences."
