CBD is NOT marijuana

To the editor:

During last Sunday’s Bavarian Blast Parade there was some misinformation on the public-access broadcast. When one announcer questioned about what CBD was, the second announcer stated, “it has something to do with marijuana.” I would like to clarify this misconception.

Scientifically, industrial hemp and marijuana are the same plants, with a genus and species name of Cannabis sativa. Industrial hemp is always a strain of Cannabis sativa, while marijuana can be Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, or Cannabis ruderalis. The difference is how industrial hemp has been bred compared to the marijuana form of Cannabis sativa.

Marijuana has high levels of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and low levels of CBD (cannabidiol).

Industrial hemp, on the other hand, has naturally high amounts of CBD and low (less than 0.3%) amounts of THC. For this reason, the cannabinoid profile of industrial hemp is ideal for people looking for therapeutic benefits without the worry of getting “high.”

Uses for industrial hemp include herbal supplements, food, fiber, rope, paper, natural plastic, and so much more. In contrast, marijuana is usually used recreationally, spiritually, and medicinally.

The CBD Centers only sell products that are below the 0.3% amount of THC as per federal laws. In fact, most of our products are well below the legal limit to a non-detectable level.
