Brown Co. Fair back with favorable weather
The Brown County Fair is underway and unlike many years, the weather is temperate. The fair started Wednesday morning with an afternoon rain shower, but by the time the carnival opened, the rain was gone and humidity with it. Thursday had near perfect weather for touring the fairgrounds with temperatures in the 70s. The rest of the week is looking to have the same temperature. This is unusual for fair weekend, where hot and humid weather is the norm. It is welcome change for the county’s annual get together.

The Highway 14 roundabout opens
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced the construction of the roundabout intersection of Highway 14 and Highland Avenue is nearly complete and will be opened to traffic soon. According to the release, the detour around the intersection could be removed the Friday evening. This detour has been in place since May 20 for the construction of the single-lane roundabout. After nearly two months of being rerouted off Highway 14 it will be a relief to have quicker access to the businesses on the north side of town. It will also be a relief to have a safer way of crossing at Highway 14 and Highland. The intersection was one of the more challenging intersection, which is why the roundabout project is needed.

50 years ago the power of the press was proven
Friday marked the 50th anniversary of President Richard Nixon resigning form office. His resignation came as a result of the intrepid investigation of Washington Post journalists Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward. The two reporters pursued the Watergate case for nearly two years despite a great deal of opposition. Their reporter drew attention to corruption at the highest seat of power and forced congress to act. Nixon was forced to resign of face impeachment. The anniversary of Nixon is a reminder not only of the checks in balances at work in the U.S. government, but the power of the press to make a difference.
