Junior Pioneers Park shelter is complete
After four years of construction and preparation, a new park shelter has been completed in Junior Pioneer Park. The Junior Pioneers were able to celebrate the completion of the shelter Thursday, during the group’s 101st anniversary of owning the park. Junior Pioneer Park is one of the few private parks owned in New Ulm. The park is located on the north bank of the Cottonwood River and is a beautiful location to host events. The completion of the shelter will likely increase the usage of a park that has strong ties to the founding of the community.

Celebrate Father’s Day, recognize
Juneteenth Day
Two major holidays are coming up within the next week; Sunday is Father’s Day and Wednesday is Juneteenth. Father’s Day is always celebrated on the third Sunday in June and is a fairly well-known holiday. The Juneteenth holiday is celebrated on the 19th of June and was only recently recognized as a federal holiday in 2021. Juneteenth is an annual celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It was on June 19, 1865 that Union soldiers ordered the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas after the end of the Civil War.
The Journal wishes all dads’ a great Father’s Day weekend and encourages everyone to recognize Juneteenth Wednesday.
