Concord Singers Day

We’ve often wondered why government officials will sign proclamations naming such and such a day as (Your Group’s Name Here) Day, and then not present the proclamation until the day is almost over. Seems the day should be proclaimed well in advance so everyone can prepare to enjoy it.

That’s not the case with New Ulm’s Ambassadors of Good Will, the Concord Singers. The group is celebrating its 90th birthday with a free concert on Saturday and the proclamations have been proclaimed well in advance.

In fact, there are duelling proclamations. The Brown County Commissioners proclaimed Saturday to be Concord Singers Appreciation Day in New Ulm at their meeting this week, and New Ulm Mayor Terry Sveine has a proclamation all ready to present. If the governor wants to get in on this, he’d better get in line.

Here’s what Mr. Mayor has to say, in part:

“Whereas, they hav always strived to live up to their nicknam of ‘New Ulm’s Ambassadors of Good Will’ and were inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 1993, and

… “Wheareas, through their use of the German language in their songs, they have helped perpetuate one of New Ulm’s founding cultural traits…”

“Now, Therefore, I, Terry R. Sveine, Mayor of the City of New Ulm… do hereby proclaim November 20, 2021 as Concord Singers Appreciation Day.”

So let’s make the whole day Saturday a day to appreciate the Concord Singers. In fact, you could probably start today.

Starting at $4.50/week.
