Knowledge Bowlers
THUMBS UP: Here’s to the Knowledge Bowl teams from Minnesota Valley Lutheran and New Ulm High School who participated in and finished very well in the MInnesota State Knowledge Bowl on Thursday and Friday. MVL Black finished 2nd in the State Class AA finals, while New Ulm Purple finished 3rd.
Congratulations to all the Knowledge Bowl competitors who have been pitting their brains against each other all season, and to the advisors and coaches who lead them through to victory.
ISD 88 Hall of Fame
THUMBS UP: The ISD 88 Foundation has been working diligently for several years now to support and promote the school district. One way they do this is by maintaining an ISD 88 Hall of Fame. Thousands of students have passed through the halls of New Ulm schools, and many of them have become successful in their chosen careers, or have contributed to the success of their communities. Thousands of teachers and counselors have taught and mentored these students.
The ISD 88 Hall of Fame gives the school a chance to recognize those who have contributed above and beyond. It also gives students attending the schools today a chance to be inspired as they look to their own futures. Seeing the success of others may lead to their own success.
Congratulations to this years inductees, Morris “Morrie” Ness, Ruth Klossner and John “Fritz” Burnett. They will be honored at an induction banquet on Friday, April 21, at Turner Hall, which is being held in conjunction with the Eagles Extravaganza.
Human Rights Award
THUMBS UP: The New Ulm Human Rights Commission honored the New Ulm High School PRISM organization with its Human Rights Award this week. The group is a student-organized, student-led group that seeks to educate on issues and advocate for LGBTQ+ students within the school community. It is a mission that takes a controversial issue and seeks to promote understanding. It takes courage to take on an issue that is so misunderstood and increasingly politicized in society. Congratulations to PRISM for standing up on this issue.
