Thumbs Up/Down

Great season for Tigers

Thumbs Up: The Springfield Tigers finished a great 2022 football season with a disappointing 38-21 loss in the Minnesota state Class A title game. Minneota’s punishing ground game proved too strong for the Tigers, especially in the second half at U.S. Bank Stadium Friday.

Finishing in second place may seem like small comfort, but there were many, many fine football teams that didn’t make it to the state tournament, let alone the final game.

Congratulations to the Tigers on a great season.

Top meal count

Thumbs Up: According to Les Schultz, one of the directors of the Community Friends Thanksgiving Dinner in New Ulm, the group this year served the most people it ever has, with 1,200 meals served.

We’re sure the community dinner made the holiday a great one for those who partook, and for those who might otherwise have been alone, for those who find it harder to entertain a large group.

This is a wonderful community-building activity, and the Community Friends deserve thanks.

Celebrating local artists

Thumbs Up: The Grand Center for Arts & Culture is holding its 2022 ArtScape Juried Art Show. This is a collection of works submitted by local artists, which are then judged and the winning artists rewarded.

The artwork is on exhibit in the 4 Pillars Gallery through Dec. 23. The gallery is open for public viewing, and people have a chance to vote on the People’s Choice award.

It’s good that local artists have an outlet to have their work recognized and appreciated.
