Team effort promotes student growth, development

Eagle Update

At the start of each school year, school administrators generally put out news articles about what’s new in the school as well as data to support what a great academic year last year was. This year, I want to focus on the people in the building that makes New Ulm High School a great place.

New Ulm High School’s support staff (custodians and maintenance staff, secretaries, paraprofessionals, food service staff, and coaches) are committed to creating a positive educational environment for students and families. These individuals work daily to communicate and prepare the environment that serves our students as they enter the new school year. While much of what they do may go unnoticed, without their support, our high school community would not be the great place that it is for the students.

Each year, our teachers and student support staff (school counselors, nurse, mental health worker, school resource officer and others) welcome students into the building. These individuals take time to reflect on their skills and prepare high quality instruction for our students. Our staff is dedicated to creating a school environment that meets the needs of all students and one that values student success. This is always an exciting time to watch students grow and develop into young adults who will ultimately be productive members of our society, whether that means attending college, joining the workforce, military, or other pathways. The work our teachers provide is the foundation in our building and without their support our high school community would not be the great place that it is for the students.

Finally, the people that we are here for, the students. Prior to the start of the academic school year, many students show their dedication to our school through participating in activities, athletics, clubs, and other school related events. For example, student organizations such as student council and the national honor society have students who volunteer their time to prepare the building so that as students begin the year, they feel connected to the school environment. As the year begins, our students are committed to their education, and we are so proud of the successful transitions they have made from one year to the next. We are excited to see what they will accomplish in the future.

As the high school principal, I am honored to work each and every day with staff and students who are committed to educational excellence. This upcoming school year is an opportunity for the community to recognize the incredible work of the individuals that make New Ulm High School a great place. A place where all students are welcomed and provided opportunities for success, a place where staff are committed to preparing and serving all students, and a place that will make New Ulm and surrounding communities proud.
