Businesses honored

THUMBS UP: The New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce has selected two of the city’s finest businesses as its Businesses of the Year for 2022. Chamber members voted at the annual meeting on Thursday to pick KNUJ-SAM Radio as the Small Business of the Year, and Windings, Inc. as the Large Business of the Year.

Congratulations to both. KNUJ has been a vital part of the New Ulm community for many years. It’s on-air personalities are like old friends for its listeners, and it provides entertainment and information, from covering sporting events to up-to-date weather warnings and school closings.

Windings, Inc. has been a leader in the manufacturing community, even more so since it came under ownership of the employees through an ESOP – an employee stock ownership plan. Its expansion and growth has led it to consolidate in the former Medallion Cabinetry plant in New Ulm, affirming its continued place in the community.

Both are excellent choices, and we look forward to honoring them at their Business of the Year banquet.

St. Mary’s at State

THUMBS UP: Congratulations to the Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s High School boys basketball team, which earned a trip to the State Tournament last.

While the results of their games may have been disappointing, it puts the cap on a great season to be able to play in the state tournament.

Senior scholars

THUMBS UP: The New Ulm Rotary Club honored the graduating seniors in the top 15% of their classes at New Ulm High School, Minnesota Valley Lutheran, and Cathedral High Schools this week. It was the 55th annual Scholars Recognition Banquet for the Rotary Club.

The students deserve congratulations for their hard work in academics througout their school careers. We wish them success in the future.

Starting at $4.50/week.
