Thumbs Up/Down

A good sign

THUMBS UP: This week the New Ulm Medical Center had some good news to report. For the first time in a long time, there were no COVID patients hospitalized at NUMC. This is a welcome development for the hardworking, overstressed staff at NUMC.

COVID patients can put a severe strain on nursing staff, requiring intensive, around the clock care. Not having patients to treat gives the caretakers a chance to recuperate and recover. We have no doubt that there will be more COVID patients in the weeks and months ahead, but we hope they will be few.

Spelling wizard

THUMBS UP: Congratulations to Nathan Carlovsky. The 7th grader from St. Paul’s Lutheran School competed in the 2022 Regional Spelling Bee held in Mankato this week. He spelled his way to a second place finish, just missing a chance to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

Silver Medal

THUMBS UP: Congratulations also to Kayla Goblirsch, who participated last weekend in the Minnesota State Gymnastics Class A meet. Goblisrch finished 11th in the all-around competition, and took a silver medal in the balance beam.

Goblirsch, a senior at Cathedral High School, was competing in her 4th state gymastics meet.

Well done.
