People in New Ulm have the chance this week to give a most precious gift — the gift of life — by turning out for the Red Cross blood drive in town this week.

The Bloodmobile will be setting up at the Vogel Field House in the New Ulm Rec Center on Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m., on Thursday from 12 to 6 p.m. and on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The Red Cross blood supply is at a historic low, and continues to decline. It has dipped to levels where hospitals might be forced to hold off on essential blood and platelet transfusions for patients.

Potential donors are urged to schedule an appointment now by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). If there is not an immediate opportunity available to donate, donors are asked to make an appointment in the days and weeks ahead to ensure the Red Cross can replenish and then maintain a sufficient blood supply.
