Please vote in ISD 88 election
We know it doesn’t feel like an election year, and most eyes in Minnesota are going to be trained on the results from the Minneapolis city elections, and their question on whether to replace the Minneapolis Police Department with a nebulous Department of Public Safety.
But there is an election in New Ulm and the area for two District 88 questions. One would provide for the long term financial stability in the district by replacing two about-to-expire tax levies with one ten-year levy that would collect the same amount as the other two. Approving this question would mean the school district wouldn’t be forced to make cuts to cover the loss of the levies.
The other question on the levy is to levy a $200 per pupil tax for the support of the Career and Technical Education program in the district. We think this program is providing a great service to students, giving them an option beyond attending a four-year college after high school graduation.
We hope voters will make the trip to the New Ulm Community Center at 600 N. German St. and cast their votes on the questions. We know it’s not convenient for those living in the farther reaches of District 88, but it should be worth the drive to know you’ve done your civic duty for the district.
