Thumbs Up/Down

Armory construction

THUMBS UP: The construction of the new National Guard Armory and field maintenance shop in New Ulm has begun. A groundbreaking ceremony was held this week for the field maintenance shop,. This will be completed in 2022, with the National Guard Readiness Center, or armory, opening in 2025.

Currently, the Amory is on Broadway, while the Field Maintenance Shop is about 20 blocks away. The new facilities will bring the whole Guard operation in New Ulm together in one spot.

This is a great addition to New Ulm, well worth the city’s investment in the land for the site.

Turner Hall history

THUMBS UP: Graduation exercises are not about endings, but beginnings. That is the case with the Turner Hall gymnastics program, which is graduating to a new phase this summer.

Turner Hall has long been the home of the Turner gymnastics program, which exemplifies the Turner philosophy of strong minds and strong bodies. This week Turner Hall held the last gymastics class in its gym. It will be moving into a partnership with the New Ulm Area Gymnastics Academy (NUAGA) and Ne Ulm Park and Rec, which will use the new gymnastics facility being built at the New Ulm Recreation Center.

Turner Hall can be proud of its history of supporting boys and girls through its gymnastics program, and in it continuation of the program in a new facility.
