NEW ULM--Edward J. Regner, age 90, of New Ulm, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026 at Oak Hills Living Center.
Requiem Latin Mass will be held at St. Boniface Chapel in Mankato on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 11am, with Father Paul Krug celebrating the mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-North Chapel in New Ulm. Edward is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Carey) Palmquist of Nicollet. Sandra (Duane) Hauser of New Ulm, and Patricia (Jonathan) Tews of New Ulm; son, Eugene (Jean) of New Ulm; son-in-law, Jeff Schapekahm of Essig; 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Cathy Lauruhn of Alaska and Hildegard Aitken of Connecticut; brothers, Joe (Sylvia) of Austin, TX and Mike of Winthrop; sister-in-law, Alice Regner of Winthrop; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; his parents; daughter, Roseanne Schapekahm; grandson, Zachary Hauser; brother, Alois Regner; sisters, Theresa (Charles) Holm, Maryann (Ken) Seims, and Doris (Daryl) Moses; sister-in-law, Elaine Regner; and brother-in-law, John Lauruhn.
Edward John Regner was born on March 4, 1936 in Bernadotte Township to Joseph and Mary (Kahs) Regner. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from March 1954 to March 1957. Edward was united in marriage to Joan Burghardt on November 19, 1958 at Holy Trinity Church in New Ulm. After farming for several years near Winthrop, Eddie was employed as a mechanic at 3M for 30 years until his retirement in 1996.
A devout Catholic, Eddie was an active member of St Boniface Chapel, where he volunteered in various capacities. He used his carpentry skills to assist with renovating our current chapel, restoring the pews and completing any odd jobs he was able to manage.
In his younger years, Eddie enjoyed old-time and county music, singing, playing the guitar, and fishing. He later tried his hand at carpentry. In addition to building and remodeling projects, he spent many evenings crafting wooden toys, furniture, spinning wheels, bowls and even whittling. After retirement, he could often be found visiting with his coffee buddies at Cash Wise, babysitting his grandchildren, attending their games and enjoying those "old time TV shows".
Always patient, reliable and agreeable, Eddie was a gentle soul who will be greatly missed.
