NEW ULM--James Wieland Sr., age 92 of New Ulm, died Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at Oak Hills Living Center.
A funeral service will be at 11am on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Burial will follow the New Ulm City Cemetery - Soldier's Rest. Full military honors will be provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home - SOUTH chapel and will continue Wednesday morning from 10-11am at St. John's, prior to the service. James is survived by his son, James Jr., daughter-in-law Sherry, along with grandchildren, great-grand-daughters and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ella (Meyer) Wieland; his wife, Beatrice in 2014; sisters, Florence Ginkle, Viola "Ole" Rockvan, Vera Meredith, Alice Robinson, Laura Richter, Hilda "Nippy" Breu; brothers, Willard, Norman, Harold "Mushie" and Vernon "Ader" Wieland.
James was born June 22, 1934 in New Ulm to Fred and Ella (Meyer) Wieland. was united in marriage with Beatrice Coates on November 2, 1956. James worked at 3M for 30 years before retiring. In his retirement, he enjoyed watching baseball games and playing cards and cribbage with friends at the legion. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Blessed be his memory.
