SPRINGFIELD--Richard Eddie Petersen, 90, of Springfield, died peacefully in his home on August 16, 2026. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation beginning one hour prior at St. John Lutheran Church in Springfield. Burial will take place at Springfield City Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the John Watson American Legion Post #257. Refreshments will be served immediately following the burial back at the church. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. He is survived by his wife Arliss (Mude) Petersen, their children Tammy Hacker, Louis Petersen, Chris Petersen; 9 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, Richard’s family requests donations be made to the Springfield Public Library, St. John Lutheran Home or the Salvation Army.
