Ronald Bruce Loftness was born February 16, 1931 in Fairfax, MN to Rueben and Daisy (Case) Loftness. He grew up in Fairfax, MN, the oldest of the family. He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1949 and went on to The University of MN to obtain a BA in History. Ron served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from January of 51 to Sept of ’54. He joined the MN State Patrol in 1957. Ron was a dedicated Law Enforcement Officer who served 29 years with commitment to service of the State. When stopping for lunch at a local restaurant, Ron met a beautiful waitress and fell in love. A short time later, he married Mary DeGrood at The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona on July 22, 1961. They raised three daughters there and lived in their home until they moved to New Ulm in 2014. Ron was a past member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Winona and a present member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm.

Ron loved to make people smile and lovingly gave them a hard time. He was a man of great humility and deep faith. Ron’s first love in life was his family. He saw his family as his greatest gift and made it a priority to love and protect them.

May the gates of heaven “ompen” wide to this faithful servant!

In honor of how generous Ron was to charities and various causes, memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
