SPRINGFIELD — Hayward “Jay” Ellsworth Drury Jr., age 78, of Springfield, MN, died on July 4, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN. Visitation will be on Monday, July 13th, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield and will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Springfield. A Memorial Service will be held at Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Springfield. Interment will be at the Elkton Cemetery in Elkton, SD. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.

Hayward “Jay” Ellsworth Drury, Jr. was born on March 23, 1948, to Hayward and Harriet (Pearson) Drury in Madison, SD. Jay graduated from Pipestone High School. During his high school years, he worked for Iverson Pharmacy, which is where he found his passion for pharmaceuticals. Jay attended and graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD, and after graduation, he continued to work at a pharmacy in Brookings. He met and married Norma Anderson while in school; the couple had one daughter together, Rochelle. They later divorced. Jay then met Donna Steen while in Brookings and they married in July of July 12, 1975. The couple raised three more children – Amanda, Joshua, and Dustin. The family lived in Willmar, Marshall, and Redwood Falls. The couple moved to Springfield in 1983. Donna died in November of 1994. On May 17, 1998, Jay was united in marriage to Cynthia Grundl. He was fortunate to grow his family by adding 2 stepdaughters. While in Springfield, Jay enjoyed serving as the community pharmacist until his retirement in 2017. Jay enjoyed Minnesota sports teams, playing cards and dice, reading, performing in community plays, grilling, golfing, and traveling. He served with the Lions, as a school board member, and as a member of the United Methodist Church, and sang in the church choir. Jay especially loved time with his family. He enjoyed being around people and serving the community.

He is survived by her wife Cindi of Springfield; children – Rochelle (Todd) Tobeck of Glencoe, Amanda (Chris) Duncan of Oakland City, IN, Joshua (Mackenzie) Drury of Rochester, Dustin (Kelly) Drury of Eden Prairie; stepchildren – Victoria Grundl (Pete Vogel) and Rhea Grundl both of Springfield; grandchildren – Tiffanni, Tim, Canyon, Connor, Tyler, and Carter; great grandchildren – Ellie and Charly; brothers – J. Roger (Sue) Drury and David (LynDae) Drury; brother-in-law Jim Murphy, and nieces and nephews. Jay is preceded in death by his parents, sister – Gay, nephew – Brian Murphy, niece – Danielle Drury, and wives- Norma and Donna.
