NEW ULM–Rosemary Dummer, age 89, of New Ulm, formerly San Francisco, California, and Fairfax, Minnesota, passed away Friday, June 19, 2026, at Prairie Senior Cottages of New Ulm, Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 27, 2026, 11:00 A.M. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax with interment in the church cemetery. Gathering of Family and Friends will be Saturday, June 27, 2026, one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Rosemary Dummer was born on November 28, 1936 in New Ulm, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Robert O. and Kathryn A. (Leonard) Dummer. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed at St. George Catholic Church. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in New Ulm, Minnesota, and four years of college at Mankato State (now MSU) in Mankato, Minnesota. She was involved in 4-H activities.
After college, Rosemary worked in Minneapolis and later moved to San Francisco, California in the mid-60’s, where she worked in the insurance land development and medical fields over the years.
Her interests were mainly in the area of music –stage and musical theatre, as well as opera and symphony. She had a love of plants, interior décor and fashion. Cats were the great love of hers, though, as was the outdoors. She performed with numerous music groups – Winifred Baker Civic Chorale, California Choristers (also performing solos), Opera Workshop (playing one of the roles) and Old St. Mary’s Choir. She was also an avid reader-biographies and crime and mystery novels. Rosemary also cherished the time spent with friends and family.
Rosemary was a member of Big Sisters and mentored an African-American teenager for a number of years. Rosemary also did volunteer work, tutoring a Russian woman, working on a theatre magazine and serving the homeless.
Rosemary passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Prairie Senior Cottages in New Ulm at the age of 89 years. Blessed be her memory.
Rosemary is survived by her: niece, Michelle Nelson and her husband, Ryan; brother-in-law, Eugene Blumhoefer; nephews, Scott D. Blumhoefer and his wife, Danielle, Michael Blumhoefer; great nieces, Kristen Blumhoefer, Madeline and Ella Nelson; special friends, Karen and Marty. Other relatives and many friends.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Kathryn Dummer; sister, Lois Blumhoefer; brother, Otto Dummer.
