Ed was born on September 8, 1938, on a farm near Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, to Michael and Agnes (Hillesheim) Treml. He was one of twelve children and grew up learning the values of hard work, faith, family, and service. Ed graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Sleepy Eye. After high school, Ed met Annette “Nettie,” his future wife. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1960-62 before returning home to begin the next chapter of his life. On December 29th, 1962, Ed married Nettie, and were married for 63 years.

Together, Ed and Nettie raised three children: Terry, Todd, and Liz. Ed treasured family life. He enjoyed taking his family on fishing and hunting trips, sporting events, and vacations. He rarely missed an opportunity to support his children as they participated in school, sports, and community activities.

A lifelong servant to the Sleepy Eye community, Ed dedicated countless hours to organizations and causes that strengthened the town he loved. Ed started his career with the Lampert Lumber Company. He served as Sleepy Eye City Clerk for 33 years, was a volunteer firefighter for 27 years, and faithfully served on the Sleepy Eye Hospital Board for 48 years. His commitment to service extended through his involvement with the American Legion, Honor Guard Trustee, Jaycees, Eagles, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, and as Treasurer of the Sleepy Eye Golf Club.

Ed had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found joy in hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, and planting beautiful flowers each spring. Following retirement, he discovered a passion for woodworking. What began as a hobby became a remarkable talent as he crafted beautiful furniture and projects. He donated many of his creations to charitable organizations and community causes, sharing his gifts with others.

Nothing brought Ed greater happiness than spending time with his grandchildren. Gramps cherished every moment spent with his four grandchildren. Whether attending their activities, sharing stories, or simply being together, he was immensely proud of each of them.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Annette “Nettie” Treml; son, Todd (Janet) Treml of Dayton, Minnesota; daughter, Elizabeth (Jamie) Sobolik of Blaine, Minnesota; grandchildren, Thomas and Benjamin Treml, Ava and Arabella Sobolik; sisters, Mary Sellner, Eileen Grund, Joan (Glen) Shimasaki, Jeanette McMullen; brothers, Michael “Chuck” (Rita) Treml and Leon Treml; sisters-in-law, Helen and Joanne Treml. He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Treml; his parents, Michael and Agnes Treml; brothers, Dennis, Marvin, Jerome and Jim Treml; and sister, Elaine Helget.

“I lived a good life – I was very proud to have served my country and my community” -Ed Treml
