Allen James Wellmann, the son of Elmer and Josephine (Korslund) Wellmann, was born on July 30, 1935, in Hanska Township, Minnesota. Growing up near Hanska on the family farm, Allen was involved in 4-H, played softball and baseball, and frequently walked to Country School No. 75. Following his graduation from New Ulm High School in 1953, Allen began farming until he was drafted in the United States Army. Allen honorably served his country and upon his discharge, he attended the University of Minnesota, earning a degree in agriculture.

On June 27, 1964, Allen was united in marriage to the love of his life, LaFaye Anderson at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. They were blessed with two sons, Chad and Kyle. They raised their family on the farm where Allen dedicated his life to being a hard-working dairy and crop farmer with his brothers and later, his son.

Allen was a faith-filled man and was an active member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church. Serving on the Board of Directors for Farmers Co-op of Hanska for several years was important to Allen. He loved watching his favorite sports teams, the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. Bowling and later, golfing, kept him busy. Fishing with his boys meant the world to him. Allen was a devoted family man, and he will be missed beyond measure.

Allen is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 62 years, LaFaye Wellmann of New Ulm; sons, Chad (Ann) Wellmann of Isanti and Kyle Wellmann of Hanska; grandchildren, Meghan (Benjamin) DeMaris and Aaron (Brittany) Wellmann; great-grandchildren, Sylvia and Oskar DeMaris and Isaac, Maria, Caleb, and Madalyne Wellmann; brother, Wallace Wellmann of St. James; sister, Norma (Roger) Breu of Searls; sister-in-law, Ardis Wellmann of Hanska; and other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elroy Wellmann and Dennis Wellmann; sister-in-law, Beverly Wellmann; and nephew, Kent Breu.
