Margel a unique and creative name originates from Jewish/Hebrew/Greek, meaning Pearl-symbolizes purity and high value. Also, believed to have roots in the Hebrew name Miriam with rich historical significance in the Bible being sister of Moses and Aaron.
Margel grew up in Lake Crystal admiring her brothers and looking up to her sisters. She was known as a tom boy with long braided pig tails, hated school, jumped trains, hitched hiked, and eventually fell in love with her soul mate, Richard (Dick) married on Oct 21, 1956. Their songs were Harvest Moon-Neil Young and Don’t You Know-Della Reese. Together they raised 5 children in Courtland MN and welcomed 41 grandchildren and great grandchildren into this world. Margel also loved her puppies; Cuddles, Snuggles and Missy as well as her cat, DC (Damn Cat). Margel had a strong faith, reading her devotions every day and praying for her loved ones every night.
Margel enjoyed the girls’ annual November shopping sprees, adventure to Jackpot Junction Casino with Fern, the annual September sibling gathering up north and playing 31 for nickels, live Cajun bands at Northern Lights Casino, long talks with her children, winning off her scratch lotto tickets, stove top popcorn (made with bacon grease), Hardees’ biscuits and gravy, reading the Chicken Soup books, living 10 feet out the door from Brenda, down on the farm (just a little sarcasm), showing off her many gifted stuffed and animated animals (just a mere 100 plus or so), wearing her Twins and Vikings T shirts while cheering them on to victory, visiting with Dr Rysdahl – her provider and friend (thank you Scott for giving her, (and us) her last belly laugh), watching the old game show network and Jeopardy, hair, caramel apple suckers, her morning black coffee, her evening hot chai tea, Sunday drives with Dick on any given day of the week, and her evening routine with Dick watching TV, sharing thoughts, a hug, a kiss, exchanging the beautiful words “I Love You” and “Good Night”.
May we remember Margel for her love of her family and friends, her kind heart, her forgiving and understanding nature, her humor, her smile, her strength, her hugs, how her eyes could say it all and the vision of her blowing kisses to us as she said good bye.
Margel was a daughter, a wife, a mother, a friend and forever a child of God. Her memories will always be cherished. She will always be loved, be a part of us and held dearly in our hearts and memories. Dear beloved, we will meet you on the other side.
