MANKATO–Gladys M. Neiman, age 80, of Mankato, died Saturday, April 25, 2026.

A Family Graveside Service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Park Rapids, MN where she will be interred with her parents.

Gladys was born September 1, 1945, to Primghar, Iowa, to Louis Wilson and Ellen Marie (Peterson) Neiman. Gladys attended elementary schools in Archer and Remsen, Iowa. She graduated from New Ulm Public High School in 1963. She then graduated from Mankato State College in 1966, with her BS degree, in 3 years for a 4-year degree. Gladys later graduated with a Masters Degree in Teaching from St. Mary’s in Winona in 1975.

Gladys started her teaching career in Lewiston, MN in 1966. She taught all sciences, speech, one act plays and was a forensic speech coach. She assisted at the Presbyterian Church youth group. From 1968-85, she taught biology, physiology, and anatomy at Hopkins High School, then from 1985-1999 she taught at Madelia High School, and from 2000-2010 at Mankato East High School where she taught advanced biology, physiology, anatomy, chemistry, and physical science. Together she taught for 44 years and 35 years of speech and debate coach.

Gladys was a member of MEA, NEA, National Biology Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, National Science Teachers Association, VINE volunteer, speech and debate coach, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Martin Luther King Pathfinder, 2006 Outstanding Science Teacher from the University of Minnesota School of Biological Sciences.

Gladys is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Neiman of Park Rapids, MN; nephew, Michael (Leslie) Neiman of Odessa, Texas, niece-in-law, Vera Neiman of Horace, ND; cousin, Judy Maderia of Hemet, CA.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lewis Neiman and nephew, James Neiman.
